The Press Blend & Our Sourcing Approach

The Press Blend, our signature house coffee & best seller, is loved by many. Which is why, when it came time to choose new components for this year, we wanted to source beans that would taste amazing, and, just as importantly, help the Earth.

When a coffee has been a core part of our offering for so long, and is a favourite with many of our customers, we have to take extra care when sourcing the new season’s crops, in order to preserve the same classic flavour profile you folks love, whilst hopefully elevating it year after year.

With notes of Clementine, Salted Caramel, and Hazelnut, this blend shines as a black coffee and pairs perfectly with your milk of choice for the ideal flat white. This edition is extra special thanks to the amazing farms we’ve partnered with.

Blend Component: Colombia

From our import partners, Forest Green Coffee, this washed Colombian coffee hails from the Caldas region of Colombia, and makes up part of our house espresso blend. It’s a mix of Caturra, Colombia, and Castillo varieties grown around 1,850 masl. The cherries were grown as part of the Reforest Project, and processed at El Vergel Estate.

“Our Reforest Project has the objective of planting 50,000 native trees throughout the northern Tolima and South of Caldas regions in Colombia. Starting with an initial 200 trees on the farms of 30 local coffee producers near El Vergel Estate, our farm located in Fresno, Tolima, we’re working to revitalize coffee landscapes and foster a healthier ecosystem. Through reforestation and sustainable farming practices, we’re building resilience to climate change while empowering coffee growers to adapt to evolving environmental conditions. This initiative offers a hopeful vision for the future of coffee in Colombia.”

EMPOWERING COFFEE PRODUCERS, COUNTERING CLIMATE CHANGE.

On our origin trip earlier this year, our Head of Coffee, Jack, was able to visit El Vergel Estate, and learn first hand about the work that’s being done by the Reforest project. Though it isn’t always possible to visit the producers that grow our amazing coffees, whenever it happens is a really special opportunity for us to learn more about where our coffee comes from & the impact that that comes with it.

“Being able to witness the Reforest Project helped to ground my knowledge and appreciation for the dedication and community within the Forest team. It’s a true insight into how ethical and sustainable coffee can become.”

- Jack Davis, Head of Coffee at Press Coffee

Blend Component: Brazil

The other half of our blend is a naturally processed coffee from the São Paulo region of Brazil, historically known for producing some of the country’s best coffee due to its altitude and climate. Seven farms make up the O’Coffee estates; Nossa Senhora Aparecida, São José, Santa Rita, Santa Maria, Santa Adélia, Santa Helena and Fazendinha.

“O’Coffee is committed to ethics and improving the quality of life of the surrounding community and society in general, engaging in numerous projects that benefit producers and organisations in the city. These include permanent preservations in place, reforestation efforts of native plants, CO2 emission reduction programs and water reuse into food production.”

We’ve been lucky enough to source coffee from these farms for multiple years in a row, working closely with our import partners at Langdon to make sure we’re getting a coffee that suits us and our customers, as well as supporting the farmers at origin. This year’s pick is a Catuaí varietal, and it brings those amazing deep chocolate and nut notes to our house blend.

Another benefit of the coffee is that it’s a natural process, meaning it uses a lot less water!

Did you know, you can also try this coffee as a single origin? If you like a classic espresso flavour profile, with notes of chocolate, caramel, and walnut, try The Fleet & taste this coffee in all it’s glory!

SO YOUR MORNING BREW CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Here at Press we believe every choice matters. We source our coffee mindfully to prioritise flavour & accessibility, and mitigate the impact that our consumption has on the planet. Why? Because it’s the right thing to do, and because frankly, we want to keep drinking delicious coffee for many years to come, so we do our best to protect the communities & environment that allow us to drink it.
