Kirunga, Rwanda

This lot was grown and harvested by 29 farmers in the Nyamasheke District of West province, Rwanda, under the guidance of lead farmer Egide Vuguzigire.

Rwamatamu is a family-owned coffee producer that was established in 2015 by husband and wife team Rutaganda Gaston and Mukantwaza Laeticia. Community is a huge focus for Rwamatamu, and as such the team have strong relationships with the farmers in Nymasheke and Mbare that they work with.

During processing at Rwamatamu’s Mbare washing station the cherries were spread out onto drying beds and sorted by hand to remove defects while being in exposed to the sun. After 24 hours in the sun, the cherries are heaped together and covered with a shade net for 48 hours of dry fermentation, then spread out again for full drying, which takes about 33 days.
